Public Works Minister Chavan inspected the under-construction flyover that collapsed yesterday at Bahadursheikh Naka at Chiplun on the Mumbai-Goa highway early today. Santosh Shelar, Chief Engineer of National Highways Authority, gave information about this. Superintendent Engineer of Public Works Department Chaya Naik, Tehsildar Praveen Lokre, former MLA Sadanand Chavan, Rajesh Sawant etc. were present on this occasion.
Speaking to the media, Public Works Minister Chavan said, yesterday’s incident is unfortunate. This bridge is two kilometers long. It is very important to check what caused this incident. A committee of three experts belonging to National Highways will examine and report on this. Removing the top girdle is also important for safety.
Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had also held a meeting and suggested that the Goa Mumbai highway should be completed at speed.
