Accepting the demands of Ghantagadi workers, the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation appeals to the waste collection workers to call off the strike

#CHANDRAPUR : #Ghantagadi workers working on #contractual basis in the essential service of #garbage collection and transportation have gone on strike since 6th October. This is causing inconvenience to the citizens of Chandrapur city during the festive season. There is a possibility of starving workers who support their families through garbage collection. As the municipal corporation accepted their demands, the #Municipal administration has appealed to the workers to call off the strike, looking at the future of their families.

In order to withdraw the strike called by the garbage collection workers, the municipal administration has given a letter agreeing to their demands. In this regard, there was a positive discussion with the Deputy Commissioner on 10 #October. Their demands include compliance with old wage promises, re-employment of 30 laborers and regular payment of pay slips.

According to the discussion, the following demands of the workers have been accepted as per the reference letter.

1) Wages shall be paid for the next period with immediate effect as per the wages paid by the old contractor.

2) New wages will be given to the workers following the old wage promises.

3) The 30 workers who were retrenched will be rehired and the contractors have also been instructed to issue pay slips regularly.

Municipal Commissioner Vipin Paliwal has appealed to the workers to call off the strike and start regular garbage collection so that the citizens of the city do not face any inconvenience in the future as sanitation services are classified as an essential service.
